2017 Md. Media State Poll (Week 7)

St. Frances remains a unanimous No. 1.

Now, Wise is a unanimous No. 2.

The rest of the Top 10 … not so clear cut.

Good Counsel’s win over DeMatha last week sparked quite a shuffle of teams throughout the Top 20. Also, Fort Hill delivered a dramatic 44-42 win over Melbourne Central Catholic (Fla.) with a last-second field goal to extend its win streak and move up in the Top 10.

After weeks of teams living largely on the transitive results (i.e. if St. Mary’s Ryken beat Mount St. Joseph, which beat Good Counsel, then those teams fall in that order), that was kiked to the curb with Good Counsel’s win. Now, McDonogh, which has a loss to DeMatha, has moved up to No. 4. This week, McDonogh faces Mount St. Joseph. Good Counsel climbs back into the Top 10 at No. 8 and DeMatha right behind at 9. But Good Counsel is now in front of the team to which it lost — Mount St. Joseph.

The good news is the next few week should help clear up ranking order.

If not, well, then there’s the playoffs that will have the final say.
