2018 Md. Media State Poll (Week 6)

At 7-7 entering the second quarter, the Linganore-Oakdale clash was playing out as expected. But a jaw-dropping 35-point second-quarter outburst by Oakdale led to a running clock to start the second half in the biggest Top 25 clash of the week.

Oakdale’s 56-7 win moves the Bears to No. 8 in the Top 25, the second-highest ranking public school team in the state. Interestingly, the only public school in front of Oakdale in the rankings is Damascus, a team the Bears could meet in the Class 2A West regional playoffs. Linganore, the defending 3A state champs, dropped from No. 7 to No. 15.

Overall, the same 25 teams from the previous week grace this week’s ranking. Good Counsel and DeMatha swapped spots after No. 2 Good Counsel upended Gonzaga (D.C.) while No. 3 DeMatha had the week off.

The week ahead is full of blockbuster matchups as the MIAA is back in full league play with No. 5 Archbishop Spalding facing No. 7 Calvert Hall and No. 6 Mount St. Joseph taking on No. 23 McDonogh. Elsewhere, No. 17 Milford Mill and No. 19 Franklin square off for Baltimore County public school superiority and No. 10 Landon will be tested by No. 12 Bullis in an IAC clash.

Here’s the rest of the Top 25 …
