2019 Md. Media State Poll (Week 5)

Elkton delivered one of the program’s most significant wins in decades last week as the Golden Elk beat 2A defending champ Oakdale.

Elkton moved from No. 24 to No. 19 this week — the largest upward movement of any ranked team. The new ranking leaves Elkton nearing the all-time high for a Cecil County public school. Elkton spent one week at No. 16 in the Final Poll of the 2000 season, following a perfect season and state title. [The short-term Eastern Christian experiment garnered a No. 3 ranking during the 2013 campaign, which is the all-time high for a Cecil County private school.]

Elsewhere, the only other big mover was McDonogh, jumping up to No. 5 following a 20-point win over Calvert Hall.

The top of the rankings remain unchanged with St. Frances at No. 1 followed by DeMatha and Good Counsel. There probably won’t be any change near the top next week, either, as St. Frances and DeMatha have byes and Good Counsel has a win over the No. 4 team that is a strong favorite to win this week.

Now on with the Top 25 …
