2022 Md. Media State Poll (Final)
The playoffs did very little to alter the state’s top-ranked teams.
In fact, the top 21 teams in the previous ranking finished in the Top 21 spots with a few slight adjustments. There were only four newcomers in the final ranking, which came three weeks after the previous ranking. Those four newcomers all occupy spots 22, 23, 24 and 25.
Once again, St. Frances finishes as the unanimous No. 1 team. The Baltimore powerhouse has finished No. 1 in the past five seasons and has held the No. 1 spot every week since Week 5 of 2017. [There was no 2020 poll due to the pandemic.]
The first notable change over previous rankings, Archbishop Spalding moves into the No. 2 slot following an MIAA A Conference title-winning season. Like St. Frances and No. 3 DeMatha, Spalding’s only loss was to an out-of-state program.
All six of Maryland’s public school state champions made the Top 25, led by Quince Orchard, which finished No. 4 following a second straight 4A state title. This marks the second straight year that Quince Orchard has finished No. 1 among Maryland’s public school programs.
The other MPSSAA state champs finished with the following ranking: 2A/1A Dunbar at No. 8, 2A Milford Mill at No. 9, 3A Damascus at No. 10, 1A Fort Hill at No. 17 and 4A/3A North Point at 23.
