2022 Md. Media State Poll (Week 2)

Two traditional powers find themselves on the outside of the Top 25 for the first time in quite a while.

McDonogh fell from No. 9 to the highest point-getter among the “Others Receiving Votes” category — the defacto No. 26 — following a 20-point loss to previously unranked Concordia Prep. Linganore, meanwhile, slipped out of the Top 25 after a loss to Westminster. This marks the first time since the 2012 season that a State Poll has been released without Linganore or McDonogh in the Top 25. In 2012, both started in the Top 25 but by Week 2 both were gone and didn’t return that season. Starting with the preseason rankings of 2013, Linganore and McDonogh have been in almost every Top 25 ranking.

The two teams that turned the upsets — Concordia Prep and Westminster — debut in this week’s Top 25. Concordia Prep, which lost to No. 23 Gilman, checks in at No. 24, while Westminster rounds out the list at No. 25.

As for the top of the order, there was not much change. St. Frances, Good Counsel, DeMatha and Quince Orchard remain in the top four spots. Archbishop Spalding inches up to No. 5.

Now on with the rest of the Top 25 …
