The state tournament in recent years has followed a familiar script: teams at the top generally validate their rankings, while the bottom half experiences plenty of movement.

The Top 5 remains unchanged with St. Frances Academy, DeMatha, Archbishop Spalding, Quince Orchard, and Linganore filling out the top five. St. Frances is a nationally ranked program. DeMatha and Spalding won the WCAC and MIAA A titles, as expected. Quince Orchard repeated as 4A state champ, and Linganore shook off a run of runner-up finishes to claim the 3A state title. In short, no surprises at the top.

Below the elite tier, however, the landscape shifts. 4A/3A state champion Mergenthaler Vo-Tech climbs from No. 14 to No. 9, while 4A/3A runner-up Sherwood rises three spots to No. 17. Calvert Hall also enjoys a bump, moving from No. 22 to No. 16 after its season-ending win over Loyola Blakefield.

The newcomers to this week's rankings are 2A champion Huntington at No. 20, 3A runner-up Oakdale at No. 21, 1A champ Patuxent at No. 24, and 3A state semifinalist Westminster at No. 25.

This is the final ranking for the 2025 season unless top-ranked St. Frances loses in a made-for-TV championship game later this week.
