State poll voters faced some tough choices this past week.
Both Flowers and North Point, each finishing the regular season 9-0 on the field, were forced to forfeit a combined 15 games. Despite the setbacks, both programs are eligible for postseason play and remain legitimate state title contenders. That left voters with a dilemma: should rankings reflect on-field performance or account for the forfeits? Judging by the results, most voters chose to value what happened between the lines. While Flowers and North Point each slipped a few spots, both teams remain firmly in the Top 10 as the regular season comes to a close.
The lone newcomer to this week's Top 25 is Winston Churchill, which upended former No. 12 Paint Branch 20-18. Churchill had been receiving votes in recent weeks, and the win moved them to No. 21 while Paint Branch settled in at No. 22.
St. Frances Academy picked up an additional first-place vote and remains a clear No. 1 ahead of DeMatha. Archbishop Spalding, which starts postseason play this week, is No. 3, followed by Quince Orchard and Linganore, which benefited from the North Point and Flowers forfeits. Linganore moved from No. 7 to No. 5. Good Counsel inches up to No. 6. Meanwhile, Flowers slipped to No. 7 with North Point right behind at No. 8. Wise and McDonogh School round out the Top 10.
This is the final regular-season ranking for 2025. The next state ranking will be in two weeks, following the first two rounds of MPSSAA regional postseason play.
